Where does my hope come from? The psalmist’s cry refocused once more on what sustains life. Our senses and minds need an eternal focal point. Unfortunately, dreams about what’s ahead can get crowded out in life’s competing traffic jam. Feelings within ourselves mess up our perception.
Taking time to direct our attention to God’s character, beauty, and order is truly life-giving. Entering into a mental space as if you see yellow tropical fish swimming in the wave, a pristine waterfall cascading over the cliff, or hearing an inner word of encouragement has the power to focus us on God’s faithful, loyal love. Directing our thoughts toward nature’s beauty or a dream home-like place in our mind helps bring us into God’s space. The more I sense the eternal future of a true, peaceful, thriving existence God promised to me, the more often my mind can settle down in current circumstances. He sees, he hears, he feels, and he provides. He promises a reward greater than any we’ve ever known.
