To move away from the destructive habits inside us, Jesus points to holistic values that elevate our thinking—wisdom and not just facts. Creating our personal image in our own eyes is not the same as being a mirror of who God designed us to be. Rediscover how a perfect human being would act. Men and women were supposed to rule together. God isn’t about repressing us; he’s about releasing the Eden/original human design.
I’m paying deep attention to Jesus’ description of His kingdom. In this place, ideal humans prefer others before themselves. They mimic Jesus inside and out. Men avoid lusting after women. Fathers are life-giving examples for their children. Mothers encourage and support their spouses and children. Jesus’ kingdom is about every human being treated as if they were Jesus in the flesh. Which is why He asked us to love our enemies.
Impossible? Not if our eyes, hearts, ears, feelings …our whole self acknowledge that Jesus’ actions on this earth fulfilled within us every jot of the Ten Commandments and their underlying principles. Inside us is a growing new creation who Loves God and Loves others.
